It seems likely that there is going to be a roadrace sidecar try-out opportunity at Llandow Circuit near Cardiff on Friday 27th August, and possibly Saturday 28th.
You will need one-piece leathers, gold stamped helmet, boots, gloves, etc, but all the drivers and passengers going are taking spare sets, so there will be a fair selection available to borrow. You won't need to have an ACU licence.
I will post more details when they are confirmed.

Pity I'm now too old, too cronky and too scared!!!!! I can go and watch though, as it's only a mile from me....
If anyones going, PLEASE let me know, I'll bring my loooooooooong zooom lens along for you.

How old?
I'm 56, size 20 and definitely creaky, but I will do it! Hopefully I'll get a chance to drive, but if not, I'll squash myself in as a passenger somehow!

My family do regard me as a bit weird!
I have taken my inspiration to try and drive a roadracing sidecar from Robin and Annette Daykin. I first talked to them at Tonfanau (a small circuit on the coast near Tywyn in south North Wales used 4 times a year), when Robin was celebrating his 70th birthday as the reigning F2 sidecar champion of the Crewe and South Cheshire Club. He is now 72 and still racing at the front!
Annette celebrated her 60th birthday this year by achieving an ambition to passenger at the Isle of Man. Her driver, Roger McSomething, managed a very creditable mid field placing, about 22nd, I think, (brain sieve syndrome means I can't recall it exactly).
But I am lucky that I am still able to do these mad things! So I am while I can. I will be the short fat one in black leathers stretched to bursting point, new boots and a new Shoei helmet, preferably girly pink!

My Hubby ended up buying a MZ complete with sidecar after a few too many bottles of Newky Brown . Its been sat in the garage/shed for a couple of years because he hasn't had room to build it (too many bikes in the garage). He's just built a bigger shed so the sidecar lived on the lawn for a few weeks. I was very, very tempted to plant it up with summer geraniums etc . He's now in the process of putting the bike back together so no doubt the sidecar will be the next project

Yaaagh I spent 3 years racing sidecars, right grin.
I was racin at knockhill last year with the north east club
and they were doin charity sidecar rides so my girly got
into my leathers and did 3 laps in a f1 outfit.
when they came back in she was babbling uncontrolably and
the radio bloke who interviewed her had his work cut out
trying to make sence of her excited rantings.
My advice is,, go for it, dont even stop to consider age or
size, just do it.

Well, it's been!
My daughter Lucie, aged 16, had a traumatic time. She went out first on an F2 which was fine. There was a big wheel classic outfit present which no-one would go on, so she said she would. On the F2's the drivers were telling the new passengers to sit and stay still initially, but the classic needed a passenger who moved. The first couple of laps were fine, but on the third she came off on the left hand bend, as the bars she was holding had no grippy bits on them. She was a bit annoyed with herself, but after a while she decided to have another go and try and get it right. The first couple of laps, the driver went easy, but when he speeded up, the same thing happened. Unfortunately it was a bit faster this time, and she bruised her little finger and ribs a bit more. So that was the end of passengering on classics. Before we went home she had a final ride out on an F2 with a very careful driver!
I had 4 goes at driving. The first was one lap in second gear - I could only change from first to second but couldn't get third. So I pulled in. Paul and the outfits owner, Karl, said "rev it more!" and stuffed padding in to make me fit a bit better and I went out again. I was all over the place - on the first lap I didn't even know there was a small chicane at the end of the back straight!
On the third go, I went out in another outfit, one that will be for sale at the end of the season. It is a Baker Thundercat and Dean, the owner, said that it would be a little more difficult to drive than Karl's CBR600 as it had less bottom end grunt. Dean has very big feet and I had trouble changing gear upwards, but PJ the passenger realised and gave my foot a shove to assist me!
I began to enjoy the bends and straights. For my last go, I went back on Karl's Honda engined one, as it was easier to make it fit me. This time I began to get it together! The foam in front of my knee flew out so the gear changing was back to being difficult, but by then I had sussed that I only really needed to change gear at the one end of the circuit. On one lap I gunned it from half way round the bottom bend and couldn't quite hold the tight line I had been keeping so that the other outfits could get by me, and it was such fun as it drifted across the track just on the edge of grip! It felt right, not scary at all!
I never sussed the chicanes or braking points, but I learnt enough to realise that I really REALLY want to have a go at this
Now I've got to find a sponsor to come up with £5500 to buy Dean's outfit, and a further 2 or 3 thou to build a shed to keep it in, buy a spare engine and some tyres for it. Then next year, it will be off to Mallory Park for an awful lot of practice days!
Lucie wants to do some practice at Mallory, but is not at all sure about racing speeds, so I may need a passenger too. I will learn quicker if I have an experienced passenger who can help me, but it is not essential.
