Zoe is racing in the Rookie 400 Championship
with Bemsee for 2005.
"Like every other Rookie I don’t
know what I will be up against next year, so
in the mean time I am just working away trying
to learn as much race-craft as I can and improve
on my lap times. I love being out on track."

" I was brought up in Fort
William, Scotland. I was really lucky as a child because
I was able to ski, climb and walk. I still love to
walk and look forward to any time out I can take in
Scotland. As a teenager I had a lot of friends who
had motorbikes. My first memory of riding was on a
CB250 Superdream with everything that was not necessary
to run it stripped off. It was great! I used it off
road and on quiet single-track roads as I was only
15. I was always falling off!!
I studied Veterinary Nursing in Edinburgh then decided
to travel. I spent most of my time in Australia, which
was fantastic. I worked in the catering industry,
as it was easy to get work and thoroughly enjoyed
being a bit of a nomad. I eventually returned to the
UK where I continued in the catering industry as a
conference & banqueting manager but my heart wasn’t
in it and the hours are awful. I quit and went to
Kent to catch up on some people I had met in Oz and
I never left. I have been in the Sevenoaks area for
about seven years now and have pretty much been in
veterinary nursing since then.
I decided to take my Direct Access in February 2000
which to my amazement I passed first time, two weeks
later I was the proud owner of a Yamaha FZR 750 which
was only re-homed this year to free up garage space
for the growing race bike collection!! Since then
I have had a GSX-R600 and currently a ZXR400SP for
the road.
After I did a day at the Ron Haslam Race School in
2003 I started doing track days and that was it I
was hooked. My boyfriend Owen did a little racing
this year in the rookie 400s and all I could think
was how much I wanted to be out there too! I have
bought myself a race prepared ZXR400 and I am so exited
about going racing myself in 2005. I have to admit
though, I get nervous and sometimes wonder if I can
do it, but I am going to go out there and do my very
best and enjoy myself. I just hope that I can make
everyone proud of me. I really want to do well."
How long have you been biking?
I’ve had my licence 4 years, but used to mess
about on bikes all the time as a teenager.
What inspired you to start
racing?
I got the bug after doing a Ron Haslam day. It snowballed
from there. When my boyfriend started racing that’s
when I began to think “Hey, I can do that!”
Being around racing and meeting others who are racing
gradually got me more and more hooked. I began to
get more positive feed back from instructors on track
days alot of which are current racers who suggested
I give it a go.
What are your ambitions?
I want to have a successful rookie year and I really
want to get a pot or two! I look forward to being
part of Feisty Racing and hope I can make everyone
proud. One day owning a heated, double garage that
doesn’t leak when it rains would be nice too!!
Who do you look up to in
racing?
Every one that gets out there and does it! I really
admire Valentino Rossi, now that is real talent!
What do you do in your spare
time?
What spare time, I am always working! Seriously though,
other than bikes, I do quite a bit of walking and
I have been known to enjoy a drink with my mates as
well. I also live with Carley the dog and Eric the
cat who both demand a lot of attention.
Who's your favourite racing
hunk?
James Toseland, who else? And he’s got great
voice to go with the piano playing!! I suppose, if
forced at gunpoint, I should also say my boyfriend
Owen!!
Many thanks go to my personal sponsor Richard Holman
of Motorsport Engineering in Orpington who is busy
making me a state-of-the-art rear shock and who will
probably be very busy next season making bits and
pieces to keep the bike looking presentable. Thanks
also to everyone who has encouraged me thus far.
