"Getting broker, getting faster, grinning wider!"

I originally intended to start racing 400s after doing several track days on mine. Then Jeff (my partner) and I got a race prepped CBR400 and I blew the engine on a track day so while that was being repaired I had a go on a GP125 and it was awesome. I rode at the EMRA Novices & Intermediates day with a team aimed at encouraging novice riders into the sport and got two 2nd's first time out. Did a few more races with them and picked up 3rd Novice in the 2003 EMRA championship. Bought a basic GP125 of my own at the end of the season and have never looked back since."

How long have you been biking? 11 years

What inspired you to start racing? I first got the urge when I was on a high after attending a European Superbike School weekend at Rockingham. Shortly after that I did another track day at Mallory when an instructor told me I should be racing so I bit the bullet and embarked on a new overdraft...!

Have you managed to get any sponsors? I've been lucky in getting financial backing from LSC Group for some of my entry fees and tyre support from Milbank Floors this season. Colin Davies from Shockwave Suspension in Ashby has also been kind enough to lend support both in terms of kit and invaluable advice on set up. Itm very fortunate that my other half is technically proficient enough to maintain the bike so I won'tt be dumping him for Frankie just yet! He also generously donates motivational abuse from pit wall when he thinks I'm not achieving the lap times I'm capable of!

What are your plans after the 2004season? I've been running on a stock '96 bike this year so I'll be looking to upgrade over the winter months so that I can tackle the next level up next season and with a bit of luck gain more sponsorship to do so. I'm hoping to a have a serious go at taking the EMRA championship next year. Further to that I need to learn some new tracks and improve my riding further so I'll be doing as many MRO rounds as possible plus one or two BSB rounds at circuits I know - nothing like throwing yourself in at the deep end eh?! I might get the other bike out again for the odd formula 400 race here and there too but the 125 class is my priority at the mo.

What are your ambitions? To kick some butt in the National 125's.

Who are your mentors and who do you look up to in racing? Gary McCoy was always top entertainment on a 2 stroke, Nori Haga and Warren Steele are great to watch too. Valentino Rossi is the daddy though! For the mentoring bit I read the Keith Code books and listen to advice from other racers for ideas on what improvements I can make to my riding. Matt Stakes (current EMRA GP125 champion) has been instrumental in getting my lap times down this year.

What do you do in your spare time? I used to spend my weekends skydiving and competing in kickboxing tournaments but that's all had to take a back seat for the racing so I'm just keeping up with my fitness at the moment.

Who's your favourite racing hunk? I've got a big soft spot for Frankie! (Let's hear it for the old folk!)
