Racing update from Hayley: Angelsey, 30th
Aug 2004
Haven`t been to Angelsey since my first
ever meeting which gave me 10th place
in race one and gravel rash and a trashed
bike in race two so I was confident that
I could do better this time around.
Race day was Monday and we had booked
two days on the track on the Sat and Sun
before with Track Time Promotions who
have given me a lot of help and support
throught the year (Thanx Phil and Pete
and Robbo). We managed to do some productive
testing with the bike trying a few different
settings etc.
We also had a scream with "Gay Paul"
who we havent seen since Nogaro earlier
this year and is Track Time Promotions
own "Track Rat" (14 track days
this year)
Anyway back to the races...First race
I got a bad start but made made some ground
up and managed 7th. My second race was
better cos I started further back on the
grid but still managed a 7th place and
I was slightly quicker overall.
My last race I seemed to get the start
right (after some help in the paddock
from Dylan Davies - Thanx Dylan) I stayed
with the back of the front runners for
5 laps and was running in 6th place when
the race was stopped for the Air Ambulance
to land. We went back to pit lane and
were given the option of restarting the
race for the whole 10 laps or calling
the positions as they stood. I was screaming
for them to call the positions cos I have
never finished 6th and I had done my best
ever start but I was overruled by testerone
cos all the guys were convinced they could
win if we re-started. After all the shouting
was done, Dave pointed out that we didnt
have enough fuel to run the full 10 laps
again and as I had put in my fastest ever
lap on the circuit (4 seconds faster than
before) we called it a day and went home
happy.
2nd Aug 2004:
We had a hectic weekend! A2 day meeting
at Three Sisters on Saturday and Sunday
with a practice session booked on the
Friday before. Got the caravan packed
and set off looking forward to a great
weekends racing. Sunshine was forcast
for the whole three days and we parked
up for the Friday practice and took our
time setting up as we were to be there
for two nights.
Once we were settled in Hayley booked
in for practice and went out for a couple
of sessions. She hadn't been on the bike
since the 4th of July but seemed to settle
quickley and put in 4 of her fastest laps
ever on our home circuit.
She went back out for a last session with
about half an hour to go and was riding
really well. about two minutes before
the session was to end she came down the
paddock straight side by side with a supermoto
rider, Hayley was on the inside line as
they went into into paddock bend and he
tried to out power her through the corner
but clipped her front wheel and took her
out. Hayley and her bike landed heavily
on her right side and as they hit the
floor a young rider (Anthony Rogers) ran
over her bike and also crashed. ...A big
thanks to Anthony who jumped up and ran
to help Hayley move her bike.
Ok that was practice over! Hayley was
badley bruised and the bike needed a bit
of "sorting".
I spent all night inventing ways of making
things fit back on the bike and then we
got Lisa Thornes old fairings which we
had had resprayed to fit (only just) and
the bike looked good as new and ready
to race.
Race day!....Hayley is feeling as stiff
as an ironing board. she can't move her
head to the right and has lots of swelling
on her elbow and hip. I told her that
she couldn't race on Saturday because
it was a 2 day meeting and she would feel
better by Sunday! .....So...after carefully
listening to my advice we are in the assembly
area waiting to go out for the first race
on Saturday with me still massaging her
neck!....
.....14th place ...not bad!
2nd race...13th
3 race...13th
4th race ...starts listening to me and
calls it a day! :)
Sunday.... Changed sprockets on the bike
as she seemed to be riding at the limits
of her gearing on Saturday. New gearing
scared the shit out of her in practice
and in the first race she bogged the bike
down at the hairpin which lost her some
time. The time couldnt be made up as the
race had been shortened due to a crash
so her times and position were a bit crap
Got really pissed off with herself and
went out for race 2 with a bit more aggression
and started from 19 on the grid and managed
a 13th place in a much faster field.
3rd race, she made a great start but seemed
to lose her concentration towards the
end and a guy that she had been beating
all weekend went past her at the last
corner. I was well pissed off with her
but hey ...thats racing!
4th July 2004
Report by Dave J: We had a great days
racing, even the rain stayed away ...Hayley
did 3 races and came 11th, 15th and 14th.
I am really pleased with Hayley's performances
today, she was smooth and consistant and
is getting faster every time she goes
out. I think finishing in the middle of
the field is a good result at this stage
of her career (3rd meeting).
Her starts are getting better and she
had a great fight in her second race with
Richard Wardle, one of the youngsters.
They must have overtaken each other 6
or 7 times - too much excitement for me
(I nearly fell off the top of Alex Gault's
Race Truck where I was watching the race
from)!
28th June 2004
Update from Hayley's partner Dave J: We
are looking forward to the weekend, preparation
on the bike is complete and practice day
is this Friday, race day Sunday. We are
starting to get our act together now as
we are veterans of 2 race meetings and
therefore are complete experts at confusion
and panic and are starting to get to grips
with the other stuff. Hopefully, one day,
I will get Hayley to the starting grid
and I wont be dripping with sweat with
a look of "did i do that right?"
written all over my face! I will try to
keep you informed of all the team antics
as the season goes on. Oh I forgot...We
decided that the team name will be "Ringside
Racing"
