2005: Paola Cazzola is competing
in the 2005 Trofeo Italiano Motocicliste, the
2005 European Women’s Cup, and the 2005
Ducati Desmo Challenge.
She’ll be on a factory Ducati 999 S #33
Paola started road racing quite recently,
but she has been an experienced racer all through
the 1990s. She started racing in the Italian
MX Women’s Championship in 1993 and acheived
better results from year to year, finally becoming
vice champion in 1997. She then became professional
and moved to the US were she teamed up with
Stefy Baù, the MX World Champion. From
1998 to 2000 the two of them constituted the
“Wonder Team”.
Finally in 2003 Paola made a first step towards
road racing by competing in Supermoto against
male rivals. She achieved remarkable results
but had to quit early on due to a crash. Consequently
she also had to withdraw from the Italian jet
ski championship.
Paola decided to take up the biggest challenge
in 2004 by entering for the Italian Women’s
Cup in its first edition. She had never been
to a race track before but she made it to the
fifth position overall at the end of the season.
Her placements were as follows: 6th and 10th
at Vallelunga, 8th at Misano, 3rd at Varano,
and 4th at Magione.
By becoming a member of the first ever female
Ducati team at the start of 2005 she’s
looking forward to a most interesting and challenging
future in racing – and to loads of fun
too, I suppose.
This is this year’s racing calendar for
Paola Cazzola and Chiara Valentini, the first
official female Ducati riders.
TIM stands for “Trofeo Italiano Motocicliste”,
the Italian Women’s Cup (in its second
year);
EWC stands for “European Women’s
Cup”, and there are two more races missing,
one in Germany, one in France;
DDC stands for “Ducati Desmo Challenge”,
where Paola and Chiara will be racing against
male riders.
