The following photos are a bit crap as they're from the telly, but (maybe) better than nothing...

Toseland and McCoy battle it out

Race 1

Poor Frankie - his bike blew up on the warmup lap of Race 1 and ended up having to ride through the campsite to get back to his second bike! So he ended up at the back - not the best place from which to defend his championship position. Then bike two gave up the ghost on the 3rd lap in front of the grandstand. Life's sometimes not fair.

Chris Vermeulen had an excellent race and led the way having qualified 2nd behind pole king Laconi. However, James Toseland and Gary McCoy got past Vermeulen and proceeded to battle it out behind.

Laconi won with a 9.8 second lead! Vermeullen kept 4th and young Brit Leon Haslam got an impressive 5th.

It's hard to do a proper write-up based on TV coverage - no live coverage on Eurosport and only a cut down version on BBC2. Such an exciting day with the Le Mans GP and Monza WSB on the same day! But the WSB just doesn't cut it for nail biting tension these days - MotoGP is where it's at.

Race 2

Definitely more exciting, with old timer Chili back in the fray, battling it out with Toseland in the early stages for 3rd position. But damn it, he lost the front end in lap 6 and that was then end of Monza for Chili. You've got to feel for the guy.

Laconi was out in front again with fastest laps, ending 12 seconds ahead of the pack. Another great start from Vermeulen saw him keeping hold of 2nd place to the end. Haslam 5th again.

The exciting front fight was between Toseland and McCoy yet again, with Toseland winning again, the battle down to the last lap.

Late update!!!
Chris Vermeullen got a DNQ in Race 2 for having a faulty engine cut out in scrutineering.

Two top ten finishes for Chris Walker.
