A hot and sunny day at Siverstone for a change. Frankie Chili had the best times thoughout practice and qualifying but was cursed with a tyre breakup during hi superpole leaving him 16th on the grid.

Race 1

This was a stonker of a race with Haga and Vermeulen battling it out for the lead for the whole of the race. Both incredibly determined and brilliant viewing. Vermeulen looked to be getting the better of it, then Haga stuffed underneath him on the penultimate corner and took the win.

Frankie Chili scraped his was gradually up from his 16th grid poistion to get an admirable 3rd place on the podium in front of the many admiring British fans.

James Toseland and Regis Laconi made poor tyre choices and both crashed out meaning that both factory Ducatis were out of the running! Tough old Chris Walker, already suffering 3 broken ribs, also crashed out on the Foggy Petronis.

Leon Haslam got a fifth position.

Race 2

This time Frankie Chili crashed out pushing it too hard to catch the front boys.

It was another race long battle between Vermeulen and Haga, this time accompanied by Laconi who was hoping to pick up the pieces. This time Vermeulen won giving Honda their first race win in World Superbikes with Honda’s first win in the category since the introduction of the CBR1000RR and the first 1000cc four-cylinder race win of all time in SBK. It was also the first win the for the Ten Kate team in this category of racing.

Leon Haslam made fourth and Chris Walker battled to get 12th position.

Camping

On an alternative note, the facilities at Silverstone are apparantly even worse than at Donington! "How can that be?" I hear you cry... A quote from Dave: "If I even think about going there again, you all have my permission to kick me in the gonads til I change my mind...."
