Feisty’s Deb Cartwright was a guest of Yamaha Austria at the Die Bike Show in Vienna recently. She was there over two days to promote the new Yamaha-Dunlop R6 Cup powered by Coca-Cola Zero in which she will be racing during 2008.
Deb was there to not only put a face to the series but to try and encourage more females to take part as Yamaha has said it will run a women’s championship within the series if enough ladies show an interest.
“If there is a minimum of five riders, we can run the ladies’ race and this series would be a great training ground for the European Women’s Championship as the R6s are eligible for both,” said Deb.
“There were plenty of cup riders at the show all sussing each other out. The most asked question off the day was, ‘so what’s your time around Pannoniaring?’. “Pannoniaring is a Hungarian circuit where the third round of the championship will take place. It’s only about an hour away from Vienna, so really it’s the local circuit. “It’s a track built by bikers for bikers. I rode there a few times last year with a best lap time of 2.06s but I need to find a few more seconds yet. With the help from Yamaha Austria, I hope that won’t be too hard.”
The other cup races will be held Hungaroring, Most, Brno, and Lausitz. The closing date for entries is February 28 and there are already 37 racers signed up.
