Although this event was booked only a week beforehand
we managed to gather 9 ladies together for a storming
track day in the blistering sunshine. What a great
day we had.
This was organised to promote the team to the general
public and encourage more ladies to get in touch with
us to see if they want to join the team. Deb Cartwright
from Fiesty Racing was there to advise potential racers
and show how it's done (and boy did she with 1 minute
1 second times!).
Hottrax
were extremely accomodating for us, giving us a discount
for the group booking and allowing us to have 15 minutes
of girls only on track for the camera. Thanks to Dave
and Karen for being so helpful. The Hottrax instructors
were also very helpful, with most of us getting one-on-one
sessions and improving our lines. I need to be less
obstinate through Edwina's and do as I'm told!
We did have one casualty unfortunately - Sarah took
a tumble during the filmed session at Devil's Elbow
(coming out of the Bus Stop). The bike is pretty beat
up but Sarah was remarkably unscathed and unflustered.
Her first words on finding her in the medical centre
were "they'd better have got it on camera!"...
they didn't - they'd moved to the hairpin a couple
of minutes earlier. Sarah needs to do some fixing
and she'll be back in track soon - balls of steel!
Special mention to 16 year old Kirsty on her flowery
125 and her supportive dad Icky. I didn't manage to
get photos at the end, so please send some in.
Thanks to all the girls for coming along - hope you
enjoyed it as much as we did. We hope to see most
of you at Silverstone on 25th September, and again
for the track day 17th October.
The BBC crew consisted of Cathy Rochford, presenter,
and Sarah the camera lady - they ended up being trapped
in the infield and spent 2 hours with us filming and
chatting. Hopefully we'll have some more interest
from this coverage. Thanks to them and Mark Shardlow
of the BBC Sports Desk for covering the event.
