Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb - 3rd & 4th June 2006

Feisty Racing were invited to take part in a hill climb by Harley Davidson Birmingham, Chapel Ash, Stadium & Surrey - something new to all of the team and something they were very much looking forward to.
Venue: Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb - 10 miles west of Worcester.

The shop supplied Buell 900s and 1200s (their Demonstration bikes) for the team, which for this meeting consisted of the base members: Susie Grayson, Deb Cartwright (nickname Moosey), Radka Angelovova-Janevova and Kat Prosser; plus team members got to take part too: Clint Dean Webb (nickname Bully) and Chris Cuckoo. There was also a Harley-Davidson procession of around 50 bikes for which the team rode the Buells and Susie took her race SV650.

Going out for the parade

Waiting for the parade

The weekend was immense fun; "we all came away with huge grins on our faces we'd definetely do it again" was the concessus. It helped that there was none of the usual pressure of a club race weekend with no bikes to prepare and no particular pre-race nerves. None of us had ridden a Buell before let alone taken part in a hill climb so there was a touch of discomfort associated, but fortunately we were able to take the bikes out onto the roads for a couple of miles - just as well since Susie is used to only 68bhp on her race SV650 and pulled a wheelie in the first 5 yards, almost giving shop manager Andy Kelly a choronary. It was best to get it out of the way there rather than flip the XB12S on the start line!

Susie's rolling burn out

The team loved the bikes; they opened up easily and turned beautifully and just needed race supsension before we could see them as great track tools. The whole team decided this was a time for burnout practice, with Deb, Radka and Kat all doing their first proper burnouts, Susie managing her first rolling burnout, holding short of trying a doughnut and Bully leading the stunts with a rolling burnout all the way back down the hill to the delight of the crowds. Deb decided that the officious person on the gate deserved extra smoking out too, so of course Susie had to join in with the bad-girl antics too. On the whole the reception to the girls racing and smoking tyres was incredible; with heads swollen by all the compliments they might not fit into their helmets for the next race meetings.

The runs up the hill were termed "demonstrations" for insurance purposes, however that didn't reduce the usual Feisty competitive edge. Deb and Susie were itching to beat eachother as always, with Susie managing to be slightly quicker in all sessions, with a best time of 37.11 secs in the final run. Chris was next fastest, also in the 37s, with the others ranging from 38s to 41s.

The team would like to pass on their thanks to Steve Palmer for setting it up in the first place, Debbie Tonks for all the fantastic organisation, Andy Kelly and the rest of the team from Harley Davidson for making them feel so welcome and well looked after.

There will be more photos on the site when we receive the official releases.
